About Us

Pocklington Runners is a UK Affiliated running club which aims to provide a social or competitive atmosphere where you can enjoy running in and around the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. 
We encourage runners of all abilities who wish to run socially, competitively, on road or trails.

Monday

Structured Intervals

Meet at the club on Monday evenings at 6:30pm. Focus on improving fitness while having fun. Session run by one of the club's LiRFs (Leader in Running Fitness).

Wednesday

Club Social

Our main club nights are on a Wednesday evening, meeting at Pocklington Rugby Club at 6:30 pm, where we focus on a social run each week. There will be a variety of routes, distances and paces on offer to suit all runners - heading out into the beautiful Wolds and surrounding countryside. Afterwards enjoy free tea / coffee and biscuits. The bar is normally open for those wishing to purchase a beer or a soft drink.

Snake Lane

This popular and well established race is a fairly flat, fast 10 miler, ideal as part of a Spring Marathon training plan or as an early target for your season. As the name suggests, the course has a winding stretch that snakes its way through the countryside at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds.

The 32nd edition of Snake Lane event will be held on Sunday 18 February 2024. Race start 09:00

Entries open on 21 October 2023 at 11:00.

Snake Lane 2024 Road Closure Information

Important information for residents and businesses

EVENT NAME: Snake Lane 10 - 2024        

 

DATE: 18th February 2024

​

EVENT TIME: 9am until 11:30am

​

Pocklington Runners committee have successfully applied and been granted a temporary traffic regulation order (Section 16a road closure) by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to facilitate the safe holding of the Snake Lane 10-mile road race. This will be the 32nd year of holding the event.

​

The event will require the closure of several roads as well as parking suspensions between the hours of 6:30am and 11:30am. The Race finish is in the town centre and so cars parked in this area will be unable to move between these hours.

 

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained at all times.

 

A full list of road closures, including approximate times is provided on the back of this leaflet We would like to apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your support of the Snake Lane 10 road race. Snake Lane - Road closures between 06:30 and 11:30 hours

​

1. Market Place – The whole extent

​

2. Railway Street  - between the junctions with The Pavement/Regents Street and Grapes Lane/Station Road

Rolling road closures between 08:45 and 11:30 hours (roads will be reopened as soon as its safe to do so)

​

3. Garths End and The Mile (Pocklington) – between the junctions with (B1246) and Yapham Road (Pocklington) and Meltonby Road (Pocklington) – Start of the race

​

4. Meltonby Road – between the junction with the Mile (Pocklington) and the continuation of Pocklington lane (Bishop Wilton)

​

5. Pocklington Lane (Bishop Wilton) – extending from Meltonby Road to the junction with Main Street (Bishop Wilton)

​

6. Main Street (Bishop Wilton) – between the junctions with Pocklington Lane (Bishop Wilton) to the continuation with Belthorpe Lane (Bishop Wilton)

​

7. Belthorpe Lane (Bishop Wilton) - extending from main Street (Bishop Wilton) to the junction with Bolton Lane (Bishop Wilton)

​

8. Bolton Lane (Bishop Wilton) and Eastfield Road (Bolton) – between the junctions with Belthorpe Lane and the B1246 main Street (Bolton)

​

9. Main Street (Bolton) B1246 – between the junctions with Eastfield Road and the continuation with Fangfoss Road (Yapham Mill)

​

10. Fangfoss Road B1246 (Yapham Mill) – extending from main Street (Bolton) to the continuation with Yapham Road (Pocklington)

​

11. Yapham Road B1246 (Pocklington) – extending from Fangfoss Road to the continuation with George Street (Pocklington)

​

12. 10 George Street (Pocklington) – extending from Yapham Road to the junction with Scaife Garth

​

13. Scaife Garth (Pocklington) – between the junctions with George Street/Grape Lane and The Pavement

​

14. The Pavement (Pocklington) – the whole extent – Finish area

​

As the last runners pass through, the rolling road closures will be removed.

York District Road Race League

The club is a member of the York District Road League which is held annually from April through August, consisting of 6 different 10k races. These are open to all members of the club, but entirely optional. They are a great way to improve your fitness and to feel part of the team.

East Yorkshire Cross Country League

Held during the winter months, a series of cross country races in across East Yorkshire and into North Yorkshire. Fantastic fun and a great way of maintaining fitness during winter. These races are open to all club members but remain entirely optional.

A £10 contribution to the cost of this is required for each entry.

Adults (over 18 years) - anyone wishing to join is welcome to come to the club on a Wednesday evening to join us on a couple of runs to see if you want to join. If you do, then please click on the 'Membership Form' button below to submit your registration. 

​

Competitive membership fees are set each year based on an England Athletics fee (currently £19) and a club fee (currently £18). Total of £37 annual fee.  Social membership fees are £18 annual fee. These are requested annually via the EA online portal.

 

Juniors (12-17 years) -  There is no club membership fee for Junior Runners from 12-17 years.  However, if you wish to compete then a fee is payable to England Athletics of £19 for a year.  Enquiries to email: juniors@pockrunners.uk
